It’s no secret that Black Seed Oil is a very acquired taste. Being an Oil with a somewhat earthy, bitter, and peppery profile it’s never going to be to everyones liking.
But as with most things which are good for you – they don’t usually taste so great.
Whilst the majority of first-time users of Black Seed Oil will struggle (or even be disgusted) with the taste, you’ll be surprised at just how many users begin to not only tolerate it, but actually grow to like it – usually after just a few weeks of regular consumption.
Struggling with the Taste?
If you’re really struggling, there are ways to help mask the taste of Black Seed Oil somewhat:
- Take the oil, followed by a small glass of fresh fruit juice (such as Orange).
- Take the oil followed by a teaspoon of good quality Honey.
- Take the oil right before food.
Most users will find the above methods to all work very well.
Alternatively, the other option is to take the Oil in Capsule-form instead. Whilst perhaps not quite as cost-effective, our Capsules offer all* the same benefits as the bottled oil, whilst providing a near tasteless experience.
Together with added convenience and less mess, our Capsules are also suitable for Vegetarians (and Vegans). So if you’re really struggling to get past the acquired taste of Black Seed Oil, give the Capsules a try.
*Sore throat? Mouth Ulcer or mouth-based ailment? We’d suggest taking the oil by the spoon rather than the Capsules. Black Seed Oil also works great for bad breath – but if taking in capsule form you will miss out on this added benefit.
Myth-Busting
‘Take the Seeds instead of the oil. Mixed with honey they taste really nice and offer the same benefits.‘
FALSE. The Seeds do indeed taste delicious, especially when mixed with Honey. However this is no substitute for taking the Oil. The Oil itself (pressed from the Seeds) is far more concentrated.
As a general rule, stick to the Oil for its health benefits and save the Seeds for use in cooking.
You would need to consume anywhere between 6-14 teaspoons of Seeds to equal just 1 teaspoon of Oil.
Let’s just say you may struggle to go to the toilet if consuming such a high amount of seeds on a daily basis.
Additionally most retailers sell Seeds which have been Steam-pasteurised (ours are not); a process which kills-off much of the goodness found within the Volatile Oils of the seeds, deeming them next to useless for medicinal purposes.
‘Mix the Black Seed Oil with water to help dilute the taste.‘
FALSE. Oil and water does not mix. By adding water to the oil you are also increasing the volume of liquid that you have to consume; prolonging the taste experience. We would not recommend it.
‘Mix the Black Seed Oil with a cup of tea to help dilute the taste.‘
FALSE. The Oil will not mix well with tea, again because it is water-based. By adding water to the oil you are also increasing the volume of liquid that you have to consume; prolonging the taste experience. Additionally you will be applying heat to the oil; which will affect the Volatile Oils and deem it to be less-effective.
