Over the last 15 years or so we’ve managed to maintain much of our pricing — not because we’re immune to inflation, but because we’ve grown as a business and with the increased sales volume, we managed to secure better prices on some supplies due to buying in larger quantities. As a further result of increased volume we also managed to secure better shipping rates. Rather than further lining our pockets with the savings we secured, we instead used them to either lower, freeze, or keep any price increases minimal. For several years, we essentially passed any savings that we secured on to our customers.
Our last and only real ‘major’ pricing update was in 2023 — a time of which you’ll no doubt recall companies here there and everywhere raising their prices by substantial margins. In our case however, we actually dropped some product prices by up to £2. Not because our costs decreased — but because we fought hard — negotiating wherever we could — we also made small changes to help lower our overheads, then passed any such savings on to you. We fought hard for our customers when most were seeing the vast changes in our economy as a mere opportunity to raise their prices way beyond the rate of inflation. In other words they got greedy. Although some of our prices did increase in our 2023 update; most products only increased by a penny, some by 50p, and only one product was raised by £1.01.
As we’re all aware by now — the cost of everything has gone through the roof, and our business has also been hit hard by it. The fact is, since 2021 alone our overall costs have increased by almost 43%. There is not a single purchase that we make, which has not gone up in price — many of which have increased significantly. From product packaging through to transportation costs, to manufacturing costs, utility bills, shipping & packaging material costs — we could go on — everything now costs considerably more, and the total overall increase we’ve experienced is quite scary.
So with this said, after a thorough review of our position, we’ve established that something really needs to change if we are to continue providing the same great quality service and products for the foreseeable future. This is not a decision we’ve taken lightly. And it’s not being done through greed — but because we absolutely must, for the sake of our businesses existence. We are passionate about our products and the good that they do for our customers, and we do not want to lose track of this.
As we’re sure you’ll appreciate, there aren’t many businesses who will be this transparent (or offer any form of justification) about price increases. We also didn’t feel that we needed to — but we wanted to. Why? Many of you have been with us for many years and have not only seen, but helped us grow into the business that we are today. We are forever thankful for you being on this journey with us, and we feel that such transparency at least goes some way in showing that we do actually do care about our customers — you aren’t just a number to us.
And what we will say is — we will always look out for our long-term customers as best we can.
